£1M refurbishment of the Shot Tower

Refurbishment work on the historic Shot Tower building, Albert Street is now complete and will open to the public in May.

 

The premises will act as a business hub catering for start-ups, graduates, SMEs and people looking to become self employed.

National Award for GCA Director 

James Thomson, a Chartered Structural Engineer, and Director of the Derby office of GCA in Green Lane,St Peters Quarter has been named as Young Consultant of the Year in a national award scheme.

 

James was presented with his award at Claridge's hotel in London at a ceremony attended by other short-listed candidates. He was the only candidate from a smaller, regional firm and previous winners have tended to be from multi-nationals. 

.

 

Royal British Legion Centre Opens

 A new advice centre for past and present servicemen and servicewomen has opened on St Peters Street, St Peters Quarter. The Royal British Legion Centre is one of 16 opening in the UK, to bring charity closer to the people.

 

The official opening took place last week (pictured), attended by Derby based, ceramic poppy maker Paul Cummings.

 

Guidance on use of A Boards

SPQ logoDerby City Council will be undertaking some survey work with regards to A-boards and structures on the highway in the city centre over the coming weeks.

 

Businesses are reminded that A-boards should be positioned in such a way that they do not cause an obstruction, block access or create a safety hazard for pedestrians.

police badgeSt Peters Quarter works in partnership with Derbyshire Police and Derby Store Watch to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour, which is down by a third since the launch of the BID.

The threat from the carrying, or usage, of firearms is thankfully very rare but a useful session on the actions you should take if you witness or experience a serious incident is being held on Thursday, 2 April at the Management Suite, Intu. There are four short sessions during the day: 8am, 11am, 14.30pm and 18.30pm.

Loyalty App Winner February

The Loyalty App incentive prize winner for February is Louise Born, from Hilton, who expresses herself as delighted with the win, and she will be recommending to her friends that they download the Loyalty App, and of course scan one of the many offers around the area so they are in with a chance of winning a £50 shopping voucher.


 Louise scanned the QRcode in Shooz4Kidz and has chosen to spend her winnings at Jillian Hart Fashions on Babington Lane.

Saturday 2 May - Free Comic Book Day - keep an eye out for costumed Superheroes  around the St Peters Quarter all day.

St Peters Quarter Entertainment

St Peters Quarter BID has been providing entertainment most week-ends for over three years, in recent months showcasing local talent.

 

On Saturday 28th March you can see Danieal perform in  East Street from noon, and at St Peters Cross - Kezia (pictured) from 11.30am, followed by DanceTek dance troupe at 1.30pm.

 

In addition, Eagle Market host a tombola through the day on Saturday for Rainbow Hospice, and on 29 March Ronald McDonald will be at McDonalds St Peters Street outlet, for one hour around noon as part of a Family Fun Day.

 

Derby Telegraph Business Awards

Two more business from St Peters Quarter BID were featured in the Derby Telegraph having registered for this year's Business Awards: McDonalds on St Peters Street and Hunters of Derby on Babington Lane.

City Centre Masterplan 2030 Consultation

city council logoThe draft City Centre Masterplan 2030 is now available to view on line.

 

The Masterplan sets out the strategic context for investment opportunities in the city centre over the next 15 years and this is your opportunity to provide feedback to Derby City Council. The closing date for responses is 4 May 2015.

Latest news on CCTV coverage

city council logoDerby City Council have announced that the CCTV cameras in the city centre are no longer going to be decommissioned, a move which has been welcomed by the St Peters Quarter BID.

 

It has been confirmed, however, that the CCTV cameras will not be monitored live. The BID recognises the importance of monitoring CCTV in helping to track crime and anti-social behaviour in city centre streets and will continue to lobby the Council for a reversal of this decision

 

Markets Operations Meeting - Monday 30 March

Given the advent of Easter, the next Markets operations meeting has been brought forward to Monday 30 March to commence at 11.00 am at the BID offices, 10 Iron Gate.


The meeting is open to all Eagle Market  traders and will provide an opportunity for you to discuss short term issues and opportunities with the Derby City Council Markets Manager, Gary Marshall.

 

Cafe Lavanta Opens

Cafe Lavanta has opened in premises on St Peters Churchyard.

 

Specialising in Mediterranean food, the cafe is a further boost to the international cuisine offer to be found in St Peters Quarter BID.
