Tidying up the Area

Representatives from businesses across the St Peters Quarter area of Derby city centre have held their first tidy up event of the year.

The initiative was part of the Business Improvement District’s (BID) objective to improve the visitor experience in the area which is the core retail heart of the city centre between the Cathedral Quarter and Intu Derby shopping centre.

Representatives from G Wathall and Son funeral directors, McDonalds, Central United Reformed Church, NCP, Yeomans Outdoors, and John M Lewis conveyancing firm joined the St Peters Quarter Rangers and Derby City Council’s Street Pride team for an early morning litter pick.

Chris Robinson, Manager of Yeomans Outdoors in St Peter’s Street said: “It is important that we all work together as a business community to improve the physical appearance of the area and improve the visitor experience.”

Michael Hudson, Practice Manager at John M Lewis in St Peter’s Street, continued: “The BID is doing a great job in bringing the businesses together for the good of the area and we were keen to support this important initiative.”

Helen Wathall, a member of St Peters Quarter BID Board which drives forward activities under the area’s Business Improvement District (BID) status, concluded:“We have been doing these activities at regular intervals over the past couple of years and there is a significant improvement every time in the amount of litter and rubbish left in the streets.

“I think that the message is definitely getting through both to the public to be more careful when disposing of litter and to the businesses in St Peters Quarter that they have a part to play in keeping their part of the area tidy which is all very encouraging.”

St Peters Quarter Food and Drink Offer

To promote the diversity on offer in St Peters Quarter, the BID has booked front page advertising in certain Neighbourhood Magazines for May reflecting the variety of cuisine that can be enjoyed in the BID  area.

This complements the existing, generic advertising of the BID area at Derby Bus Station.

Vibrant Furniture opens in Babington Lane

Vibrant Furniture and Furnishing opened in Babington Lane, St Peters Quarter during March, in the premises previously occupied by David Brindley shop, following a substantial programme of refurbishment.

Other businesses to open their doors in recent weeks are Nutrition First, at the Spot, and Cookshop Clearance Company, in Albion Street.

Loyalty App Scheme featured in the media

derby telegraphAn ongoing programme of monthly features in the Derby Telegraph, reflecting the diversity on offer within St Peters Quarter, included a full page in last Saturday's edition of the paper highlighting those businesses with a current Loyalty App offer.

Readers were invited to enter a free draw for 60 St Peters Quarter shopping vouchers, worth £5 each, redeemable at participating shops and businesses within the BID area. Winners will be announced next week.

The extra incentive of being entered into a monthly draw for a £50 voucher when scanning the in-house Loyalty offer QR code was also highlighted. Businesses with a Loyalty offer are asked to ensure that all customers are asked to scan the QR code that is provided for use at the pay point.

Derby 10k - Sunday 19 April 2015

The route of the Derby 10k will again take runners through the heart of the St Peters Quarter this year. Organised by Derbyshire-based charity Sporting Futures, the event raises funds for disadvantaged young people in Derbyshire and will take place on Sunday 19 April.

The 10k race will feature more than 5,000 participants with some road closures in force in the surrounding area.

Further information regarding the race and the official route can be found here
