Businesses Join Forces To Spruce Up Area

A wide range of business from across Derby’s St Peters Quarter area of Derby city centre will join together on Wednesday October 29 for their latest collective tidy up of their streets.
The initiative is part of the Business Improvement District’s objective to improve the visitor experience in the area.
Representatives from businesses including Costa Coffee, Barclays, Tesco, NCP, McDonalds and Dance Tek will join the area’s Rangers and Derby City Council’s Street Pride team for an early morning litter pick, organised by the St Peters Quarter BID and sponsored by McDonalds in St Peter’s Street.
Armed with litter pickers, gloves and bags, they will meet at 7am and split into groups to collect rubbish.
Volunteers will also be tidying up the area at the bottom of Green Lane which has been refurbished with giant planters.
St Peters Quarter is the city centre’s retail core between the Cathedral Quarter and Intu Derby shopping centre including the busy ‘high street’ area of St Peter’s Street and East Street, The Spot, River Lights and the ‘Lanes’ area from Green Lane to Babington Lane.

Helen Wathall, a member of St Peters Quarter Board which drives forward activities under the area’s Business Improvement District (BID) status said: “Keeping the streets in St Peters Quarter clean and tidy is an important part of our overall aim to improve the visitor experience and attract more people back into the area.
“The Business Tidy Up initiatives help to raise the profile of what every business should be doing to contribute to this overall aim and I am delighted that businesses are once again embracing the opportunities to work together through the BID for the good both of their own operations and of the area as a whole.”
Street Pride area manager Simon Aitken added: “Working closely with St Peters Quarter on initiatives such as this enables my team to better understand the needs of the business community. In turn, we can feedback on how businesses can take simple, but effective measures to keep our city tidier.”
